VARIETAL: MUSCAT À PETIT GRAINS
REGION: BAROSSA VALLEY
COUNTRY: AUSTRALIA
FORMAT: 750ML
ABV: 13.5%
VINTAGE: 2023
DRIVEN, PUCKERY, AROMATIC.
WHY WE LOVE IT:
Old vine Barossa Muscat à Petit Grains (aka frontignac, aka fronti) is a red grape of low colour intensity that produces white wines in sweet or dry styles. It is one of the world's oldest grape varieties, with ancient Greek origins, and is used to make Moscato wines, as well as fortified dessert wines with rich, concentrated, and often rancio flavors.
I know some of you just read Moscato and turned off immediately. DO NOT LET THAT DISSUADE YOU!! This is none of that! This wine is INCREDIBLE. Underline that.
While super fragrant, it is so driven and pucker-ey that it has you reaching for the glass on repeat. Bruised apple, tangelo, lemon balm, a little bit of musk... the wine opens with a slightly oily, slightly prickly texture and blooms into it’s florals, orchard fruit and orange oils, finishing with a dry kick.
This bottle will surprise and delight. Enjoy with spicy fare, or better yet, apéritif before dinner.
