2023 JOLY 'Les Vieux Clos' - chenin blanc - AOC Savennières, Loire Valley
ELEGANT, LONG LASTING, BALANCED.
WHY WE LOVE IT:
A true Cult Classic. The Famille Joly wines are a spectacular representation of time and place. Incredibly low yeilds and a dedication to the highest quality production practices make these bottles true cellar treasures.
Joly's winemaking philosophy is rooted in allowing nature to take its course. He uses natural yeasts, avoids filtering or fining, and minimizes intervention in the fermentation process, resulting in wines that are said to be more expressive of the vineyard's terroir.
Les Vieux Clos provides an inviting taste into the Famille Joly style. The 5.5 hectares vineyard is planted on light slopes facing east in the mountainous AOC Savennières appellation. The soil is different here, with more sand in the first two feet. The vine age is on average between 25 and 30 years. Yields are kept at 25 hectoliters per hectare, well below the 50 hl/ha requirement of the appellation. Joly's Chenin Blanc wines are known for their complex flavors and ripe fruit flavors, floral aromas, and a distinctive minerality.
Recommended to decant before drinking.
